I'm a coder, not a mountain climber--I'm not going to build it just because it's there.
However, I will as soon as I need to build it. I'm considering a project that would require a custom version of javap. If I go through with it, then it's a given that I'll be building OpenJDK.

Download it, sure. But why the hell would I want to go through the pain and suffering of getting it to build?

Like PhoneME. While the OpenJDK is great to have access to, I am more focused on the PhoneME going open. While this is not exactly OpenJDK, I think it may be inline with what you are asking, that being, who's going to download and build the new open products of Sun's.
