  Books: either old imprints that need clearing out or new titles that aren't going well
  Gadgetry: anything you're trying to push
  Software on media: old versions
  T-shirts: no hidden agenda
  
  The last time I went to a Sun Developer day, you expected me to stay all day to get a CD three versions behind what I downloaded in the free time that going home early gave me. Thanks, but you need to consider my side of the value equation.

  I voted for books. Books are great! But by the way, do they always fit your needs? I do not think so. If you need it, you already have it - if not, well...
  For a realistic point of view the top schwag is still t-shirt. I never will have enough t-shirts size xl.
  USB-Sticks are fine - coffee-cups either and all of these pens, pencils and sketch-blocks and -books.

  T-Shirts. I went to JavaOne last year and will be on JavaOne this year, taking only 2 t-shirts with me and get the rest of my wardrobe from the various vendors. But please make sure that the t-shirt is cool and of good quality, not just some logo that fades away the first time I wash it.
  
  USB sticks with e-books (PDF) are nice as well.

  Here are a few suggestions for prizes or gifts that I personally would appreciate:

  At JavaOne, I wish Sun would give out Nintendo DS instead of Sony PSPs, I think most geeks would find that one more desirable. After all, you give out iPods and not Zune, right? :)

  I'm glad I see the "book" alternative winning in this poll, as that was what I voted for too. Electronic toys tend to lose their appeal after an hour or two and then be tossed away (or handed in to recycling, in the best case) and that feels like a bit of a waste to me. When you get a really good book (like, Java Concurrency in Practice, or Java Puzzlers) you feel you really increase your competency.

  I think "Make" magazine, either a subscription, or issues, would be a great prize too, and/or some high quality tinkering tools.

  When some people won Sun Ultra Workstations with Solaris preinstalled last Java One that seemed to get a big "wow" out of people, so I think that would be a great high end prize. Especially if paired with a DTrace book.

  Ohh, what else.... Certification vouchers is nice. A good sound or graphics card would make every PC owner glad I think (nVidia in that case, the ATI drivers for Linux are terrible), even if they aren't gamers. Bundle with Project Looking Glass and/or MythPC live CDs, or a book about home media centers.

  ...help me with a World wide effect that has potential to make money using the newest Java Desktop System on top of Redhat Enterprise Linux and the Fedora Core Linux? I need to make some sort of World wide effort and to collect a great deal of world wide support for my efforts. I plan on using all of the Java resources to create this effort. A java Desktop modified with all of this communities efforts to empower the j2se, j2ee, j2me, j2we, etc. for this effect to be realized.
