java.net Federating Instructions

If you have already developed a mature web site or a project with a solid infrastructure, and want to foster collaborative development, leverage java.net's technology, and make your own resources available to other community members, you may choose to Federate services from java.net.

As a Federated member, you will be placed in our member directory, enabling you to leverage java.net collaboration services and functionality directly from your community. Some collaboration services offered are: weblogs, wikis, forums, RSS syndication, articles, and more. And like all java.net members, Federated Members have the option to create a homepage on java.net via a Project Homepage, dedicated to that member's content, information and issues. This Project Homepage becomes the member's Federated presence on java.net.

In addition to giving your community visibility, Federating allows you to cross reference services with java.net. This will allow you to leverage java.net collaboration services and functionality directly from your community. Among the collaboration services offered are: weblogs, wikis, forums, code repository, RSS syndication, articles, and more.

Federating only requires that your site be in accordance with the Guiding Principles of java.net, that you place a "member button" on your home page, and provide us with information about the services you would like to federate.

1. Become a java.net member.

2. Fill out the Request a Project Form, which provides us with basic information about your community and the list of services you would like to federate.

3. Download the member button and place it in on your home page.

4. Send an email to projectupdate@admin.dev.java.net when the member button is posted.

5. We will review your request and contact you within two to three business days to enable your services.
