I am the author of JTwain and the articles about this software. Please contact me with the actual error message so that I can help you further.
It is possible that the error message is related to not finding jtwain.dll (you would typically put that DLL in c:\windows under Windows 98, for example). Without more information, I cannot say what is happening.

Note: Within the next few weeks, I will be creating an updated JTwain library that corrects a couple of small bugs related to image extraction, adds some new features, and merges the JTwain library from the first article and the JTwain library from the second article.
