But don't rule out physical media. I've been hearing that those are "dead" for a decade now, hasn't happened yet. And for backup it's always a good thing to have them.

I do however agree on the futility of "interactive" "features". Hardly anyone cares for those. The only ones the vast majority ever use are options to select languages and subtitles, maybe jump to another scene or chapter, and that's it. And those are not what the BluRay Java interface is meant to cover, as they're already covered by the DVD specification of which BluRay is a superset.

In fact most of those "interactive" "features" I personally find extremely annoying. Annoying enough that if I stumble into an "interactive" TV show I quickly move to another channel.
