Actually, once you're created a "method reference" in FCM, you don't invoke it the same way as the original method. Much of the FCM proposal defers to BGGA for its details. The draft JSR for closures at http://www.javac.info/consensus-closures-jsr.html is based on BGGA with the addition of "method references" from FCM.
