A subproject of DFJUG Brasilia; originally developed on java.net by Fernando Anselmo (a Java Champion) who wrote most of the code.


WHAT IS IT? -- Rybena, is the social Java project of DFJUG with support of the CTS Institute (www.cts.org.br). Rybena is a Java ME program that transforms spoken words to deaf sigh language transmitting them to mobile devices. Rybena is a Xavante word for "communication". Xavante is a Brazilian tribe in the state of Mato Grosso.

Rybena is a technology that was picked up by the Brazilian telephone company; and, it is also being used in the Brazilian Senate + government chambers to assist in the communication with deaf people to enable them to be better connected to their government.....and it all started on java.net
