My friend and former colleague Kiran Patel has been hard at work founding a new organization specifically about and of technology evangelists. Next Monday is the first GNoTE event, with a nice line up of speakers, including Guy Kawasaki, who coined the term "technology evangelist" at Apple in the 80s.

I got word this evening that my friend from college, and later colleague at Sun, John Ponte died. I thought I'd share a few stories about him. Given that most of our circle of friends have been online since the 80's, and doing almost anything with John led to a story worth telling, I hope some others of us will find this page and add theirs.

A couple weeks ago, at NetBeans Day in San Francisco, we gave out awards for outstanding contribution to the community. The winners got a framed Duke poster...and a really nice workstation...
