I'm here in Brazil to kick off the Desafio NetBeans plug-in contest - this involves traveling to a lot of cities in Brazil and doing training on writing plug-ins. So I'm posting our schedule for anyone who wants to join us.
Want to save huge amounts of typing? It's pretty rare that I stumble across an unsung NetBeans feature that's new to me, but this one has already saved me an enormous number of keystrokes. My hat is off to the editor team! This is simple yet amazing...
Five years ago this week, we put the final touches on the initial NetBeans.org website. It wasn't as pretty as it is today, but watching it go live - and getting our first patch within a few hours of going live - was an incredible moment. If you're in the San Francisco area, you can come join us this Sunday for NetBeans Day (free, whether you're going to JavaONE or not).
I've spent the last week in Brazil, doing some talks about NetBeans, how to write plug-ins, etc. And lots of time in airports and planes has provided some chances to work on the new editor hints module for NetBeans (screen shots in blog). What a lovely country!
I'm doing a NetBeans module-building presentation inside Sun next week. POV-Ray scene language makes a nice demo for explaining how to do some things. So NetBeans now has POV-Ray support (screen shot in blog)...
And after a month on the road demoing NetBeans, I'm back in rainy Palo Alto. But I took a few more nice pictures on the way.
So I moved from Prague to California. And I had this car in Massachusetts. What better way to get it to California, than to drive, with lots of stops to demo NetBeans for people?
As some people know, I recently moved home to the U.S. after living for 5 1/2 years in Prague. Culture shock is not when you move to another country. It's when you come home. Some observations on what it's like to come back.
